Manufacturing Process Of Industrial Rubber Sheets

Company News

Industrial rubber sheets are versatile components widely used in mining, construction, automotive, and manufacturing industries, demanding exceptional durability, wear resistance, and chemical stability. Aochen's industrial rubber sheets are crafted through a systematic 6-stage process to ensure consistent performance in harsh working environments.

1.1 Raw Material Selection & Preparation

The foundation of high-quality industrial rubber sheets lies in premium raw materials. Aochen's team carefully selects base rubbers-including SBR, EPDM, NBR, and natural rubber-based on the intended application of the sheet. For example, EPDM rubber is chosen for outdoor or high-temperature environments due to its excellent weather and heat resistance, while NBR is preferred for oil-resistant applications. Raw rubbers are inspected for purity and viscosity before being cut into manageable chunks to facilitate mixing. Additionally, functional additives such as carbon black (for enhanced strength and wear resistance), anti-aging agents (to prevent degradation from oxygen and ozone), and plasticizers (to improve flexibility) are pre-measured with precision using automated equipment, ensuring accurate formulation ratios.

1.2 Intelligent Mixing & Kneading

Aochen leverages advanced intelligent rubber mixing production lines- a competitive edge rarely seen in the industry-to achieve uniform blending of raw rubbers and additives. The pre-prepared raw materials are fed into internal mixers, where they are mixed at controlled temperatures (typically 100-140°C) and speeds. This process, known as "compounding," transforms the raw materials into a homogeneous rubber compound with consistent properties. After initial mixing, the compound is transferred to open mills for kneading and refining, which further enhances the dispersion of fillers and additives, eliminating lumps and ensuring the compound's uniformity. Aochen's intelligent mixing system monitors key parameters in real-time, such as temperature and mixing time, to avoid over-mixing or under-mixing, which could compromise the sheet's performance.

1.3 Calendering

Calendering is the critical stage that shapes the rubber compound into thin, flat sheets.

The refined rubber compound is fed into a calender machine equipped with three or four precision-ground rollers.

The gap between the rollers is adjusted according to the desired thickness of the industrial rubber sheet (ranging from 1mm to 50mm, as per customer requirements).

As the compound passes through the rotating rollers, it is pressed into a smooth, continuous sheet with consistent thickness.

Aochen's calendering equipment features automatic thickness control technology, ensuring that each sheet meets strict dimensional tolerances.

For specialized sheets, such as anti-slip industrial rubber sheets, a textured pattern (e.g., diamond or grid) is imprinted on the sheet surface during this stage using patterned rollers

1.4 Vulcanization (Curing)

Vulcanization is the chemical process that transforms the soft, plastic rubber compound into a tough, elastic material. Aochen's industrial rubber sheets are vulcanized using either press vulcanization or continuous vulcanization lines. For thick sheets or custom-sized products, press vulcanization is used: the calendered sheets are placed into hydraulic presses with heated platens, where they are cured at high temperatures (150-180°C) and pressures (10-20 MPa) for a predetermined time (depending on thickness and rubber type). For continuous production of thin sheets, continuous vulcanization ovens are employed, where the sheet is conveyed through a heated chamber at a controlled speed to ensure uniform curing. This stage is crucial for enhancing the sheet's tensile strength, elasticity, and resistance to heat, chemicals, and wear-key properties for industrial applications.

1.5 Trimming & Surface Treatment

After vulcanization, the rubber sheets undergo trimming to remove excess material and irregular edges, ensuring clean, precise dimensions.

Aochen uses automated trimming machines for large-volume production, guaranteeing consistency and efficiency.

Depending on customer requirements, additional surface treatments may be applied, such as coating with anti-adhesive agents or bonding layers for easy installation.

For food-grade or medical-grade industrial rubber sheets, a special cleaning process is implemented to remove any residual impurities.

Aochen's strict quality control system is implemented at the final stage to ensure every industrial rubber sheet meets international standards (ISO 9001/14001) and customer specifications. Inspectors conduct comprehensive tests, including thickness measurement, tensile strength testing, wear resistance testing, and chemical resistance testing.

Sheets that pass all inspections are cut into standard sizes or custom sizes as requested.

They are then wrapped in moisture-proof film and packed on wooden pallets to prevent damage during transportation.

Aochen's industrial rubber sheets are now shipped to global markets, including Europe, the Americas, and Africa, providing reliable solutions for industrial flooring, gasketing, and equipment protection.
