Manufacturing Process Of Molded Rubber Products

Company News

Molded rubber products encompass a wide range of custom components, including rubber foot mats, rubber buffers, automotive rubber parts, and industrial rubber accessories. These products are designed to meet specific shape, size, and performance requirements, making customization and precision manufacturing the core of their production process. Aochen's molded rubber products are produced through a flexible, customer-centric 7-stage process, capable of accommodating small-batch custom orders and large-scale mass production.

3.1 Customer Requirement Analysis & Mold Design

The process begins with in-depth communication between Aochen's engineering team and the customer to clarify the product's application scenario, performance requirements (e.g., hardness, elasticity, load-bearing capacity), and dimensional specifications. Based on these requirements, the team designs a custom mold using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Mold design takes into account factors such as rubber shrinkage rate, mold cavity layout, and gating system (to ensure uniform filling of the compound).

3.2 Raw Material Selection & Compounding

Similar to seal rubber parts, molded rubber products require tailored raw material formulations. Aochen's team selects the appropriate base rubber (e.g., silicone for food-contact products, EPDM for outdoor products) and additives based on the product's intended use. The raw materials are mixed using Aochen's intelligent mixing production line to create a homogeneous rubber compound with the desired properties. The compound is then tested for viscosity, hardness, and tensile strength to ensure it meets the moldability and performance requirements of the final product.

3.3 Preforming (Optional)

For large or complex molded rubber products, preforming is performed to ensure the rubber compound fills the mold cavity completely. The compound is cut or extruded into preforms that closely match the shape of the mold cavity, reducing the risk of defects such as air bubbles or incomplete filling. For small, simple molded products (e.g., small rubber foot pads), preforming may be skipped, and the compound is directly fed into the mold.

4.3 Molding Process

Aochen utilizes a variety of molding technologies for molded rubber products, depending on the product's complexity, production volume, and cost requirements:

  • Compression Molding
  • Injection Molding
  • Transfer Molding

3.5 Vulcanization & Demolding

The mold is heated to the appropriate curing temperature (150-180°C) and held for a specific time (determined by the product's thickness and rubber type) to complete vulcanization. During vulcanization, the rubber compound cross-links to form a tough, elastic material with the desired performance characteristics. After curing, the mold is opened, and the molded rubber product is demolded. Aochen's operators use specialized tools to ensure safe and damage-free demolding, especially for products with fragile structures or metal inserts.

3.6 Post-Processing

Post-processing steps vary depending on the product's requirements:

Trimming: Flash and excess rubber are removed using automated or manual trimming tools to ensure the product's surface is smooth and dimensions are accurate.

Surface Treatment: Some products undergo surface treatments such as painting, printing (e.g., logo printing), or bonding to enhance their appearance or functionality.

Assembly: For products with multiple components (e.g., rubber and metal assemblies), assembly is performed to integrate the parts into a finished product.

3.7 Quality Inspection & Packaging

Aochen's quality control team conducts comprehensive inspections on molded rubber products: dimensional accuracy is checked using CMMs and gauges; performance tests (e.g., compression set, elasticity, wear resistance) are conducted to verify compliance with customer requirements; and visual inspections are performed to detect surface defects such as cracks, bubbles, or discoloration. Qualified products are cleaned, packaged according to customer specifications (e.g., individual packaging, bulk packaging), and labeled with product information and batch numbers for traceability. Aochen's molded rubber products are shipped to global customers, providing customized, reliable solutions for various industrial and consumer applications.
